It’s been a few months since Nico passed away but we had a big surprise today. Two of my best friends from my initial herd at the other ranch came to visit! Guess what, it gets even better. Louie told me they are joining our herd! Maserati is a dark brown Huacaya and actually looks a lot like Nico. He was part of my Cria herd and we used to play all the time when we were younger. He is a nice guy and a great addition to the team. Talizman, or Tali as we call him is a golden fleeced Suri alpaca. He is another cool dude, very athletic and really adds some speed and muscle to the herd. He was also part of our Cria team. It has been great reconnecting with both of them. I told them about Nico since they hadn’t heard and they were very sad, because all 4 of us were very close friends. It was nice having close friends like Maserati and Tali to share things with. Louie spent time talking to our new members and Monty and I showed them around the place. I wanted to just run and play with them like when we were younger, but Louie made sure I did my job ensuring they knew where everything was like the water buckets, hay feeder and feed buckets, not to mention where the bathrooms are. Once everyone got settled, we all grazed together in the pasture. It was a great feeling having two more close friends as part of the team.
With Maserati and Tali on board, the herd is really doing great. It didn’t take them long to get used to the barn and pasture. Both of them are excellent alpacas and really do a great job of grazing and humming! I know Monty and I were getting tired of taking turns covering the whole pasture and we are both thankful for the extra help. Initially Louie wasn’t too keen on the new recruits, but I think he learned that they are great guys, and they don’t need much training. Louie can be grumpy at times, but he appreciates hard workers. Days turn into weeks and weeks into months, and I can feel myself growing more muscular and stronger. Seems like just yesterday we were skinny little Crias, but now we were all getting stronger. Monty has always been stronger than me because he is a year older than me. Now I feel I am catching up. Alpacas continue to mature at age 2 -3 and I could feel and see it. Maserati and Tali were the same as me, since we were all born the same year. They too were getting bigger and stronger, and it was exciting to see! With Louie’s leadership and Monty’s knowledge and the three of us were coming into our own, we were creating an awesome herd!
