When we get alpaca and llama owners visiting our ranch, they always fall in love with our wadding pools. On our very hot Florida days, our girl and boy alpacas and llamas are often standing or laying in the pools or drinking from the sprinkler inside it. We are often asked how do you build it. We are on our 3rd iteration and we find this one to be the most cost effective and easiest to maintain. Here is all you need to get your alpacas and llamas a cool place to chill! This is for a 10 x 10 pool, but you can easy expand to bigger by buying more PVC pipe and couplings.
* 4 - 10 foot 3 inch PVC pipes * 3 - 3 inch 90-degree corner elbows * 1 - 12 x 15 Heavy Duty Tarp (Llama and even alpaca toe nails can damage thinner tarp. Based on multiple purchases, spend the money for heavy duty! * 3 - bricks or any heavy flat stones that won't hurt the animals if stepped on. * 1 - Sprinkler * 1 - Automatic water timer (Yes you can turn on the sprinkler manually, but having the sprinkler come on dury hot parts of the day is not only a time saver, but an important part of your herds health! ** See the image for assembly instructions and other options. Maintenance - *Depending on the temperature and fall foliage we try to drain our pools every week or two. *Leaving one side unattached allows for an easy pvc lift, move the 3 bricks, and complete drain. A push broom helps remove leaves and sticks. After a quick draining, we readjust the open corner, tarp, and bricks. * We add the sprinkler to the center of the pool, add a splash or two of bleach to reduce algae growth and soon the pool is reopened for a party. The 3 inch PVC frame add just enough dept to cool off tired, hot feet or to get bellies wet during a refreshing Cush and not get their backs wet. The sprinkler is also a great motivation to drink because sometimes they forget during the heat. As you know as herd animals, if one is doing it, others tend to follow. Soon it becomes part of their routine! 😊 Staying hydrated is a key to better herd health. Happy to answer questions and would love to see pictures of your herds next pool party! 🦙🦙
